In the Common Core  Standards for Mathematics, the very first Standard for Mathematical Practice is that students should “understand problems and persevere in solving them.” Whether you are beholden to the Common Core or not, this is certainly something we would wish fo  students. 

The topics are explored through an explanatory and inquiry-based approach. They are interrelated and easy to understand, with succinct explanations/examples being included, especially on areas that students frequently find difficult.

Topics address the whys and hows behind key concepts to be mastered, so that the concepts are made understandable and intuitive for students. The focus is on conceptual learning so as to equip students with knowledge for critical learning and problem solving.​

 

Presenting physics as fun doesn’t do justice to the subject. To be fair, though, some teachers do go that one step further and talk about the journey physics can take us on, the challenges it faces, the ease with which it explains so many aspects of nature, the big questions it addresses and its relevance in almost everything we sense and observe around us.

Physics isn’t fun. Like Richard Feynman said, the pleasure is in finding things out. All too often, however, teachers try the ‘physics is fun’ approach. In our experience as a physics teacher and now as a an Ambassador, we haven’t seen that method have a lasting effect.
